Hypoxic air is a simulated high-altitude environment (an environment with reduced oxygen content. It must be considered as an environment in which there is a greater stress on the body than at sea level or in the lowlands, not only in terms of the cardiovascular and circulatory systems, but also in terms of the respiratory system. In an environment of simulated altitude, the organism has less oxygen available than it is used to, which causes higher energy expenditure, many physiological reactions and adaptive changes.

Common phenomena of staying in a simulated high-altitude environment (environment with reduced oxygen content) are pulmonary hyperventilation, decrease in oxygen saturation, increase in heart rate and heart volume, in extreme cases also dizziness, dehydration, nausea, disorientation, headache or manifestations of acute mountain sickness. Therefore, only healthy people who do not suffer from diseases of the cardiovascular and circulatory system, respiratory system or anaemia should live in a simulated alpine environment. Furthermore, it is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, persons under 18 years of age and persons suffering from any of the above-mentioned diseases to stay and enter the simulated alpine environment. Persons should consult their physician before staying. Entry for persons under 18 years of age only when accompanied by parents or trained staff.
